Job description

CIDETEC Nanomedicine is seeking to recruit a person to join its Biomaterials Unit, which develops biomaterials based on hydrogels and bioactive coatings for application in medical devices.

CIDETEC is seeking a technician to work on its Gene Therapy Specialisation Line for production of non-viral vectors as part of the Biomaterials Unit. The technician will carry out the experimental part of the Line’s different research projects, involving synthesis, production and characterisation of biomaterials. The successful candidate will be actively involved in maintaining the centre’s quality system via maintenance of equipment related to the corresponding Line, drafting and reviewing work instructions, applying these WIs and maintaining orderliness and cleanliness, assuring and improving the quality of the work within the team.

CIDETEC Nanomedicine is an applied research centre specialising in the development of innovative technologies and materials in the field of biomedicine. We have six patent families with potential application in pharmacy, cosmetics and health products, and at the same time we continue researching innovative lines such as non-viral vectors or antimicrobial resistance.

 

Your contribution

You will form part of a state-of-the-art research centre geared to sustainability and the circular economy, which develops innovative materials in the field of biomedicine. Its direct contact with industry enables it to complete the technology transfer process, reducing time-to-market.

The technician will join the Biomaterials Unit to work on the Gene Therapy specialisation line and carry out work on synthesis/production of materials for vectorization of genetic material as part of research projects for training and with companies. The successful candidate must be capable of meeting the required quality levels in their work. The technician will be responsible for the quality of production lab equipment and must ensure the proper functioning of the laboratory. They must propose areas for improvement in lab organisation to enhance resources.

The Biomaterials Unit is developing its encapsulation technologies in specific applications such as Gene Therapy. The successful candidate must be able to adapt to working to pre-set deadlines and must have the skills to work in a multi-disciplinary environment.

 

The candidate will also be involved in:

  • Carrying out the internal and external testing assigned.
  • Preparing the cells/samples for subsequent testing.
  • Maintenance, upkeep and cleaning of laboratory equipment.
  • Drafting internal technical reports on the results obtained from their testing.
  • Entering data and results in the computerised systems.
  • Involvement in calibrating the testing equipment and ensuring its correct state and availability.
  • Filling in the laboratory testing records and keeping them updated to enable monitoring of their work.
  • Creating charts, graphs, calculations etc. from the test results.
  • Collaborating on the maintenance of the laboratory’s Quality System, carrying out the tasks assigned to them and keeping records of the testing and work done.
  • Drafting and amending the test documentation.
  • Checking the records and making trend analyses.
  • Managing and checking the reproducibility and repeatability tests.
  • Checking the test reports.

Requirements

Education:

Vocational or degree-level training in testing and quality control laboratory. Other studies of interest in occupational risk prevention.

Languages:

B1 level in English. 

Knowledge:

-           Implementation/drafting/update of SOPs. 

-           Work in a quality control laboratory.

-           Experience in material production/characterisation.

-           Production laboratory organisation.

 

Observations:

A highly motivated person, with a keen interest in research and innovation, you will join a multidisciplinary team. You will be able to organise your work, meeting both the deadlines and the established objectives. Problem-solving capacity and scientific criteria. Good communication skills, both verbal and written.

Having undertaken a placement abroad and having 5 years experience will be considered a plus.
