Job description

CIDETEC is looking for a pre-doctoral researcher to join its staff in the Biomaterials Unit for its gene therapy research area. The thesis project will focus on developing new non-viral vectors, both polymeric and lipidic in nature, characterising and functionalising them for specific biological targets.

esponsibilities:

Working at the frontier between materials science and biology and making use of the existing knowledge and experience in the unit, the PhD student will be responsible for:

  • The design and synthesis of new formulations that maximise the encapsulation of different nucleic acids with therapeutic potential, their entry into cells and their intracellular release, minimising their toxicity.
  • Characterisation (structural, chemical and cell culture) of new nano-formulations.
  • The conjugation of vectors with molecules (such as peptides), which direct them towards specific markers of target tissues and cells.
  • Dissemination of results (articles and presentations).

In addition, the PhD student will have the opportunity to:

  • Within European and national collaborations, interact and spend time with groups of international prestige.
  • Participate in training and/or business transfer projects.
  • Generate new ideas/concepts.

Generate new business opportunities.

Requirements

Education:

Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or Materials Engineering and a Master's Degree in Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Polymers, Materials Science or comparable.

Languages:

English: Spoken and written proficiency.

Knowledge:

Knowledge of the following will be considered an advantage:

- Synthesis of polymeric and/or lipidic (nano) materials.

- Materials for biology.

- Knowledge of instrumental techniques for particle characterisation.

Comments:

A highly motivated, self-reliant, pro-active person is required, with a team spirit and an interest in research and in acquiring knowledge in cell and molecular biology (training will be provided).
