Job description

CIDETEC is looking for a specialised and highly qualified researcher with experience in nano-surfaces and thin film, in order to develop R&D&I projects in the area of surface modification/development of nano-coatings to obtain surfaces with new functionalities, such as easy cleaning, anti-frost, anti-fingerprint, hygienic surfaces, etc.

The ideal candidate must have a top-level research background and demonstrable skills in the European and international environment.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will join the Nano-surfaces and Thin Films Unit of CIDETEC Surface Engineering, working on both training and business transfer projects.
 They must be capable of carrying out several lines of research simultaneously, optimising resources and maximising results.

The researcher will work independently, according to the defined work plan.

They will be in charge of:

  • Managing and planning/implementation of R&D projects, both training and industrial.
  • Preparation of proposals for applying for R&D subsidies in regional, national and European calls.
  • Analysis of results, drafting reports and preparing presentations.
  • Communication with clients and partners in collaboration projects.

Requirements

Education:

Doctorate in chemistry, chemical engineering, nano-technology.

Languages:

Fluent spoken and written English.

Knowledge and experience:

The successful candidate must demonstrate a sound knowledge of and experience in:

  • Surface modification and development of functional nano-coatings, mainly by wet chemistry.
  • Thin film deposition methods (dipping, spraying, etc.)
  • Coating characterisation techniques (contact angle, adhesion, ATR, XPS, XRD, FESEM, etc.).
  • Organic synthesis and characterisation techniques (NMR, FTIR, DSC, TGA, UV-vis-NIR spectrophotometry, rheology, etc.).

Knowledge of ink formulation and printing technologies (screen-printing, ink-jet, etc.) would be an asset.

Observations:

The successful candidate will be highly motivated, with an interest in research and innovation, with initiative and the ability to contribute new ideas, and will join a multidisciplinary and multicultural team.
 The candidate must be able to plan and organise their work and meet deadlines and targets. Problem-solving capacity and scientific criteria.  Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
