Job description

CIDETEC is seeking to recruit a highly qualified specialist researcher with experience in Nano-surfaces, with a view to developing R&D projects related to training and industrial applications in the field of surface modification/coating development for obtaining functionalities such as easy/self-cleaning, anti-icing, anti-fingerprint, low adhesion of microorganisms, etc.

The ideal candidate must have a top-level research background and demonstrable skills in the European and international environment.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will join the Surface Engineering department and will work on training and/or company transfer projects. They must be capable of carrying out several lines of research simultaneously, optimising resources and maximising results.

The researcher will work independently, according to the defined work plan.

They will be in charge of:

  • Managing and planning/implementation of R&D projects, both training and industrial.
  • Preparation of proposals for applying for R&D subsidies in regional, national and European calls.
  • Analysis of results, drafting reports and preparing presentations.

Communication with clients and partners in collaboration projects.

Requirements

Education:

Doctorate in organic chemistry, chemical engineering, nano-technology.

Languages:

Fluent spoken and written English.

Knowledge and experience:

The successful candidate must demonstrate a sound knowledge of and experience in:

  • Organic and technical synthesis of characterisation of materials (RMN, FTIR, DSC, TGA, spectrophtometry UV-vis-NIR, etc).
  • Preparation of surfaces with low superficial energy (hydrophobic, oleophobic and omniphobic) through chemical modification by wet process:
  • Preparation/development of formulas for obtaining low wettability coatings.
  • Methods for deposition of thin layers (dip-coating, spraying, doctor-blade, etc.).
  • Pre-activation of substrates for improved adhesion of coating layers (plasma, chemical treatment, etc.).
  • Characterisation of the coatings (contact angle measures, surface free energy, adhesion, ATR, XPS, XRD, FESEM, etc.).

Knowledge on technologies/strategies for generating antimicrobial surfaces will be valued.

 

Observations:

We are seeking a highly motivated person with an interest in research and innovation to join a multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural team. The candidate must be able to organise their work and meet deadlines and targets. Problem-solving capacity and scientific criteria.  Good communication skills, verbal and written.
